The ancient city of Nora
Just 20 minutes from the Hotel Santa Gilla, you can reach one of the most important archaeological sites of the island, the ancient city of Nora. Located on the promontory of Capo di Pula, an isthmus between two points, Sa Punta ‘and Su Coloru and Punta Coltellazzo, opposite the little island of the same name, the city of Nora is one of the first settlements Phoenician-Punic island, because of its strategic location.
Established in the eighth century, it became one of the most important trading ports in the Mediterranean. Today most of the city is submerged, but you can still see the ruins of the Roman era: the theater, the mosaics of the noble houses, and the remains of ancient temples.
